I have always supported Stern Grove Festival until they put a racist on-stage to perform as headliner. Masego’s lyrics about Navajo women were disgusting and never should have had a voice in the city. To give you an idea, this is some lyrics:

“I thought she was an indian (Navajo)
Now she's slangin' thangs like a simian (now I know) uh
All my life, I wanted me an indian (there she goes)”

Yes, Masego’s lyrics compare Navajo women to simians (apes) invoking harmful primitive stereotypes. Secondly, his lyrics compare Native Women as objects that you can “get” — ignoring the horrific historical trauma of native women being seized, kidnapped and murdered that sadly continues today through the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women movement.

Unbelievably, this song did in fact play for thousands of people, as Masego’s signature song — without any thought about how racist it was to Native Americans

Shame on Stern Grove Festival Association for allowing this song and performer. You utilized donor and tax-payer funds (via grants) to promote racism against Native Americans. That song should NEVER have been played in a public SF space

This place was pretty awesome! It was pretty crowded, but everyone was super friendly so it wasn't a bother. *Get there early!* We got there at 945a and our show started at 2p. The place was packed to the hilt by 12p
The hike to the amphitheater was a little long and very exhausting, but it is what it is and upon arrival at the amphitheater I realized it was totally worth it.
Can't wait for the next chance I get to go!

Be careful! The address shown here (832 Folsom) is not the park - it's the office for the people who oversee the park! The park itself is in a completely different location at Sloat and 19th Ave.

Great park with lots of redwood trees. I always take my dog for a walk around the lake. Love the big grass play area for dogs and people.

Closed down Stern Grove park for a Festival with no alternate bike path for bicycle riders. Forcing riders onto the sidewalk or down 19th Ave
