We enrolled my daughter in voice lessons with Maribel and were disappointed with the overall experience. The lessons were only 30 minutes long, which always felt rushed and didn’t allow enough time for my daughter to make meaningful progress. We asked for longer lessons and were kind of rudely told she didn't have time for that. Additionally, the song choices were not engaging for her—most of them were old folklore songs that neither she nor I recognized. While these might have had a purpose, it was never explained to us, leaving my daughter unmotivated and unable to connect with the material.

We also felt that the structure of the lessons didn’t prioritize the vocal skill-building we were looking for. For example, my daughter couldn’t even complete learning a single song in one session, let alone focus on improving her voice. I tried addressing these concerns during a lesson, but the response was less constructive than I expected. Ultimately, we decided to seek another program that offers longer lessons, better communication, and material that is more relatable and enjoyable for my daughter.

We appreciate the time Maribel spent with her, but this experience did not meet our expectations. All in all, we were extremely disappointed. Especially after waiting months to even get in.

*My daughter mentioned singing defying gravity ONCE to the teacher to which I followed up and said, "it doesn't need to be Defying Gravity, because I know that's very advanced, but just something more up to date that she will recognize." And as far as the time, I've now come to realize 30 minutes is plenty when you have the right teacher. My daughter learned more in her first lesson at another school than she did in the month and a half she went to Sayla. The only thing they offered me was to switch teachers, but after how uncomfortable her original teacher made us feel, we decided to go elsewhere, and it was the best decision we've made. Yes, I have left other negative, yet honest reviews. However, I also always give credit where it is deserved and leave positive reviews as well. Whoever wrote the response back to my review on here never even cared enough to reach out to me themselves so take that as you will. I'm just taking this as a learning lesson and moving forward much happier 🙂

As an adult learner, I was a little apprehensive about starting violin lessons. My instructor is Amy and she is so patient, kind, and creates such a comfortable environment. I truly enjoy her lesson each week. I have just moved to California from Rhode Island, and have made a lot of great friends through work, but I am so very glad that I have found a sense of place away from work. I started playing the violin back in March (thanks to Youtube). I lost my job due to the pandemic, and it just became a quarantine project. I've been wanting to play for a while, and when I moved out to California, it was the perfect opportunity to start a new routine. I know I have a long way to go, and a lot of self-discipline to learn, but I am loving it so far!
