I’ve been to the Amoeba store in SF before, but this was my first visit to the one in Berkeley. As expected, they had everything I could ask for in terms of vinyl. Awesome inventory of many different music types, rarities, box sets, etc. I was very happy with their selection of underground/indie artists, jazz and classic rock. I could shop here for hours given their selection. I was happy with my finds! Support your local record stores!

This was my first time in the store. Lots of selection, prices were decent on used albums, and CDs, lots of new stuff that I haven’t seen in stores at home. The staff that I spoke to were very helpful. I would definitely visit again.

The original Amoeba Records and for my time and money, the best. At this point in time, the store should be recognized and protected for its historical status. Until that happens, please be advised that as a 60-year resident of the Northern Bay Area, there are only two reasons that I will travel to Berkeley. One of them is this store, and the other is Moe's Books. Everything that you have heard about the store is true. If you are looking for a new or used piece of physical media in any format, this founding branch of Amoeba will most probably have it. The staff is a fountain of knowledge and experience. Like mystic sages, the employees should be treated with respect, as they have much to teach, even to the most learned of customers. That being said, this location has never suffered from any sort of terminal hipster vibe. On the contrary, true diversity is celebrated in all aspects, and the staff supports absolute pluralism of tastes and aesthetics. Yes, this location has buyers available to handle small numbers of items, and they do buy large collections by appointment. I have dealt with them in the latter case and the expertise of the buyer was so precise, he was able to have me read Japanese runoff numbers on my vinyl to ascertain whether or not my collection merited a trip by their employees to my house. In short, these people are professionals, qua professionals. The selection and pricing of their used, standard, and collectible stock is graded with strict precision and reason. If you have a very fat wallet or an extensive line of credit, ask to see the original artwork, and posters that the store is reknowed for from historic shows and events starting with the 1960s straight through the punk years and into hip-hop. There is a reason people travel all over the world to come to this store. It is a true global destination.

If you know what they sell, you probably already know where they are. This place is a treasure trove of vintage music.

Haven't visited Amorba Music in years. Same set up, Very nostalgic. Enjoy flipping through vinyls while listening to music brought me back to college days. It was worth the drive from Hayward to pick up gift card.

After visiting Amoeba in San Francisco I wanted to visit the Berkeley location. This one is a lot smaller but still has a large selection of records and merchandise. I bought some nice records for a good price. The staff was friendly and helpful!

Good store that has Vinyl, CD's, VHS, DVD/Blu ray's, Memorabilia, and more. The only things that bother me are staff could be friendlier and the shelves need regular cleaning. I did ask if there was any horror VHS behind the counter (which there was) but was bluntly told no and that the VHS guy was not in... I traveled from London to visit this store! Better customer service would definitely be appreciated.

One of two iconic record shops in Berkeley (the other being Rasputin's). An overwhelming selection of records, CDs and music paraphernalia. Any type of music, or artist, you can think of they have in both new or used.
