This past weekend, November 8th, 9th and 10th I debuted and performed my original One Woman Musical Stage Play A SUNDAY KIND OF LOVE at:
The Black Repitory Group Theater
There are so many wonderful things to say not only about this theater but the entire staff. I was treated like royalty and given such respect. They cared about making sure my show and everything that went with it was handled. This weekend I was the 60th Season Opener. My Show did so well its been extended to run November 22nd through December 8th.

The owner Sean Scott is a drunk. He's throwing away his family's legacy. Sometimes you don't know what you got till it's gone. Don't let the door hit ya where the good lord split ya

The owner is very friendly. This theatre has been around since the 1960s, I believe, and has an incredible past. I hope that the present and future endeavors at the Black Rep are just as powerful!

I really enjoyed the energy of the show. Everyone did a wonderful job. I didn't know what to expect so I thought I'd be seeing a professional play. This was definitely community theater but the spirit was everything! I would have given it a five star rating but sadly they advertised a soul food buffet with a VIP ticket. In reality, the soul food buffet was not a buffet. You were handed a tray with either 3 ribs or 2 pieces of chicken (no sides.) As a vegetarian, I count on the sides. I was forced to buy $7 nachos like they give you at the movie theater. They would not comp me even though I could not eat the food I had already paid for because it was all meat. They would be better off not serving hot food there as all the meat eaters I was with were equally disappointed with the false advertising. None of us got what we paid for unfortunately.

I was not sure what to expect but I turned out to be very satisfied. I had seen this advertised and I wondered if it would be worth the trip from Santa Rosa to Berkeley. Frankly, when I saw the place I was even more concerned that it was not worth the effort. But by the end of the evening I was very impressed with this talented group of hard-working performers who put their heart and soul into this performance and the venue. What they really need is what all of us can provide which is support and participation. If you have some time and want to see people working there craft make time to come to this place. You can keep your subscriptions to the fancy theaters around the bay but also share with some of these more important houses that provide opportunities for up-and-coming Community performers

I was very unhappy. Ladies bathroom nasty. It was worse than an Out House back in the day. I was so excited to come to a Black owned and operated theater. Why do we as a people half present plays. The cast was short I noticed it so I am sure others did. I enjoyed it but please. I love the theater.
This theater needs a lot of help. Renovation badly, it was also noted the sound system was terrible. The people behind me were complaining the entire time. God Bless you for what you are attempting to do. You need some grant writers. A grant could possibly be written for improvement to the center. I love what theater represents to not only to Oakland but surrounding areas and those of us who move hear from other states. We look up to our African Americans in CA to keep us up with what we should be doing. Thank you for reading.

I too attended the Ruffs Endz concert and was highly disappointed with the organizer of this event. The event did not advertise that there would be several acts prior to the Ruffs Endz performance which was scheduled to to take place at 8 pm instead they performed at 9:30. Additionally the venue was not prepared for the event on time. The Bartender did not arrive on time nor did the liquor. While the alcohol was high grade there were only two mixers offered(coke and cranberry juice) which were not appropriate mixers for many of the liquors available. The drinks were served in a paper coffee cup, tacky. Now back to the show. The MC spoke about the black legends who had graced the stage and the history of the venue , it’s prominence in the black movement but this concert was the opposite! We had VIP tickets which meant we sat in the first 3 rows of the venue and received one drink ticket. When the show finally started a videographer blocked our view and proceeded to film the first act in front of our seats! We asked her to move but she did not. The female rapper and her back up dancers also arrived late and were not a good addition to the show. Next more stalling by the MC who I did not mind but where is Ruffs Endz? Then a young male rapper with his crew hits the stage again why? A young lady then sits in the front row and gets up in her cutout black dress and bends up and wiggles her butt at us and then at the rapper, yelling praises! We later learn she is a friend of the promoter. While Ruffs Ends’ performance is great the concert itself is classless and poorly organized. I too tried to leave and asked for my money back but was encourage to stay. I should have left .

This last week in I along with 7 friends attend ed the Ruffin concert. The show was late starting. With VIP ticket were were promised 1 beverage. The bartender was late arriving. She has a limited selection of alcohol. She only has cramberry juice. She served the cocktails in a paper coffee cup.
The show began with a young woman rapper that had three twerks borderline strippers. It was disgraceful. The foul language was offensive to our group who paid to see an old school R.B duet Ruffin. Next was a rapper the music was loud. The lyrics were laced with offensive foul language. I forgot to mention the MC. She kept reminding the audience of the greats that that graced this historocal stage. They probably were disappointed from their graves. She kept telling the audience she was over 50. We could see that. Then some lady in a red dress sang a song. It was not what we paid for. So the. MC read the audience a poem she wrote about Ruffin. She was truly stalling. Ruffin had not arrived it was about 9:30pm when they took the stage. Most of the mature audience had enough and had left before they arrived. There was no more than 25 people to begin with.
We should have been given a refund when we asked. I was truly disappointed in the poor planning and choice of mixing rap with RB. I had the impression that the acts were called last minute. Get it together or close the doors. You are in my opinion making the great on the walls sad.
