Boutwell has been Birmingham's staple professional sound studio for a long time. I took a workshop here for voice acting 10 years ago and found it useful. I've used their services/facilities a few times since then. It's such a cool spot. Nice sound rooms. Friendly people who are all good at what they do. We're lucky to have this place!

Horrible customer service! Spoke to a guy named Lane that said it's $175/hr to rent and Greg (owner) said they don't rent it out ? Here's the story...

I call Greg, introduce myself and say I am working with a colleague who wants me to find a studio to mix and master music in Birmingham, AL, and I was on the website to find the equipment/plugin list which I could not find, and I kindly asked for it. Greg rushes into transferring me to a guy named Lay or Lane. Lane is hesitant to give the info I need, though he did say WAVES, I still had to do too much explaining just to get some simple information. He also says it's $175/hr even though I told him I'm not the one booking it, as to "scare" me away lol. I think you guys know what's going on here especially when other studios comparable or probably better charge $80/hr. So I then I call back to get the DAWs they use and Greg said they use ProTools. Cool. I then ask what about Studio One. He then goes into this spill about the studio not being for rent. What studio not for rent all of the sudden? I chuckled and said no Greg it's software just like ProTools... He then says "only the engineer knows that info, I'm just a sales guy".. What? But you just told me you have ProTools.. wouldn't that be something only the engineer knows? lol Then he says thanks and hangs up the phone... instead of transferring me back to Lane. WOW. Super disappointed in these guys as a professional business. they would have had repeated weekly business from us but now they only get a 1-star review (zero stars if it let me). Just as I recommend businesses to my network, I also tell them who to avoid.
