One of my favorite places. The drive has eucalyptus trees along the road, and it smells amazing (roll your windows down). Beautiful views and along the beach during low tide there are amazing tide pools. 😊 There were even a couple of happy friendly surfers that let us take their picture. We stopped Mid October so the beach was not busy at all. There were nice restrooms right near the parking lot. A couple of picnic tables on premises. Highly recommend.

Beautiful, fun hike. I hiked the whole hike with a 30lb child on my back. It was uphill the whole way out but not too steep or challenging. That being said I'm a moderately active person. Beautiful views with a Geocache at the end. Restrooms at the beginning of the hike, dog friendly trail with two different spots for picnics. One lower picnic spot and one near the top, both have a beautiful view.

Spend a day here on your next vacation!
Montaña de Oro is one of the largest state parks in California with over 8000 acres, including seven miles of shoreline.
Pack a picnic basket, sunscreen and hiking shoes for a great long walk/hike with the most spectacular views and amazing rugged cliffs, private sandy beaches (on of the best-known beaches is Spooner's Cove, across from the campground).
On the way out, stop by the Spooner Ranch House near the Islay Creek Campground for a look at the past. The drive in is beautiful with the eucalyptus trees welcoming you.
The small town of Los Osos is located 4 miles to the north of the campground and offers gas stations, grocery stores, and dining options.
Check out my review for Kuma restaurant for a great lunch/dinner.

Amazing how they have combined camping with nature. So beautiful! It’s really the perfect place to chill. Take pics and videos! Caves and incredible geological formations all around!! Shells , rocks , sea animals etc. No pollution or trash !! Please don’t litter if you go . Has a bathroom and a small dirt parking lot at the beach. I love this place !! Huge trees all along the one way into the area!!

A great state park. Interesting trails and exciting views. See my pictures. First time in my life, I saw a rattle snake and a bull snake in the wild. I missed photographing the rattler but I got the tail of the other one.

Absolutely gorgeous park. We spent about 3 hours walking back and forth, taking photos and viewing the wildlife. Such a lovely peaceful place. There's plenty of parking and not crowded at all. Lots of rocks to climb and the flowers are so very much in bloom this time of year!!!

Wonderful visit! Clean campground. Tidy restrooms. Quick jaunt to the beach, but easily can hear the ocean waves throughout the whole camp area. Very cool historical exhibits in the ranchhouse/souvenir store. Don't miss that! They are open 11a to 4p daily
Our dog had a wonderful time on the beach and chilling at our camp site. Almost everyone was courteous (one couple let their children scream and laugh loudly at 7a while playing outside), but all were friendly.
Few things of note: 1. Camp hosts were nowhere to be found our 4 days here, so they were not selling firewood. We had to journey into town (a quick 15 minutes) to buy some. 2. There's quite a bit of poison oak around. It's not IN the sites but certainly AROUND them. 3. There were a lot of flies. It was odd, but it was unreasonably warm for October. They were annoying from sun up until sundown. They weren't around trash, or food, or garbage bins, just on our dog and on us humans. We even showered and they still loved us.
But glorious camping all round. Can't wait to go back! !
