This was our first year to attend the Oz Mo Mu Festival, and the lineup of musicians was impressive! We really appreciated the variety of styles, and the ticket price was very affordable.
The event took place entirely in the historic Basin Park Hotel, which is very historic and quaint, but also comes with issues one might expect from an old building that must be more expensive to maintain than the owner is able to put into the business.
The bar in the Balcony and the Game Room were understaffed, and apparently overworked. At one point, our bartender in the Balcony asked everyone seated if they were ok, so she could go take a break. She left for a bit, and there was no plan for customers who walked up while she was gone. Everyone understands right now that it's hard to find people in the hospitality industry--one idea might be to use good volunteers to help the staff. A large music festival in Fayetteville has done this successfully to allow people who can't afford a ticket the opportunity to be able to enjoy the music in exchange for a bit of service time.
Expect some funk...there are quite a few people who feel comfortable bringing their dogs of all sizes to the indoor events, talking loudly during the music, some weed in the air, and even a Nerf gun war taking place---I couldn't decide whether I thought that idea was fun, or if it made me very nervous, when I looked up during a concert to see a woman pointing a gun in my direction, and a foam bullet flying past the head of the person next to me. I think I'm leaning on the side of more anxious, considering the fact that there WAS a shooting about the same time in California at an event. But, the funk allowed for lots of laughs and good conversations, too.
We really enjoyed Mike Ichenstein's narratives and lyrics, the intimate cave setting, Good Morning Bedlam's unique style and musicianship, and much more. You're sure to discover a lot of new artists and enjoy some time in Eureka during the off-season.

What hoot in the holler!
Cold cold but we didn’t mind at all. Basin Hotel creaks and groans with history, along with some of the guests. Stay up late into the wee hours you might see a ghost. Art work and music and food. So fun.
