This event center is located smack dab in the middle of San Jose State University. The closest parking garage is also for university staff & students so it may have a lot of cars when you arrive. Take picture a signage where you park. We went in February pre pandemic & staff didn’t set up entrance screening until 1 hour before event. It was a mad dash to get inside before show started even though thousands of people were lined up early. They were also only letting us enter through stairs. No lower level entry. Event turned out wonderful.

Attended a SJSU evening commencement here and experienced the least prepared security personnel I have ever encountered. My experience highlighted what I perceived as severely untrained and/or inconsistently trained security personnel. The main low-lights include:

1) Little to no information about entry protocol and prohibited items being included with the commencement details. In order to find that information, my partner searched the general Event Center page and the information she found was still lacking in key details as we would later discover when entering the venue. There was also zero signage or visible information provided at the entrance to the venue.

2) Security personnel attempted to enforce contradicting rules. While the information that my partner was able to find online made no mention of any restrictions to thermoses (e.g. HydroFlasks or YETI’s), the security personnel at the exterior “entrance” to the Event Center instructed me to empty the 40 oz of water I had in my HydroFlask and assured me that I could refill it inside of the Event Center. Upon arriving at the interior entrance to the Event Center where security personnel were inspecting bags and guests had to pass through metal detectors, the gentleman inspecting my bag pointed to my HydroFlask and said “Not allowed.” I attempted to relay that the exterior security personnel had allowed it so long as it was empty and even told me I could refill it inside, however this gentleman continued to say “Not allowed” repeatedly. He finally called another security personnel over to ask about my HydroFlask and this gentleman ultimately let me through with it, but then addressed the point-and-shoot camera that my partner had brought to take pictures of her sister (who was graduating). He informed us that cameras with lenses “longer than a credit card” weren’t allowed inside and that my partner had to detach the lens from it to which my partner had to explain to him 3 times that the camera was one piece and that the lens did not detach from the body. He finally allowed us to pass after my partner promised she would not take the camera out of our bag.

3) A clear bag policy was being enforced, however this policy was not communicated in relation to the commencement ceremony. As I mentioned earlier, my partner conducted her own search to determine the entry protocol and that is how she learned that the Event Center has a clear bag policy for all events. Unfortunately, many of the other attendees to tonight’s ceremony were not aware of the policy and were prevented from proceeding past the exterior “entrance” including one woman who explained that her purse contained medication for a heart condition.

I was here to see the bands The Beta Machine and A Perfect Circle. The venue was very low key and relaxed.. everyone just wanted to have a good time! Security was really tight but there weren't too many problems. Most everyone respected the rules and didn't film or take pictures during the performance 🙂 It was easy to pick up my ticket from will call and get inside. The bathrooms were cleaner than most, however the toilet was not flushed in my stall. They did, however, have the good soap! Before the show my friends and I were hungry so we grabbed some food from the 🌮 🔔 in the student food court not too far from the venue! The whole experience made me want to go back to school and persue my dreams! 🤩 Parking.. it was in a garage. They did the best they could with what they had 🤐 Always get there early!

Nice smaller venue with convenient parking . We picked seats on the floor, but being in the back it was hard to see over some heads. There was a walkway out into audience somewhat and that was great. But I think being a little up the stadium seating would be best view, If not in the pit. Eateries in walking distance.

Nice quaint venue to watch NCAA Division I Men's & Women's College basketball. Only suggestion would be more street signage,(banners, vinyl signs, billboards, etc.) from the Hwy 87 off--ramp to the venue, along Seventh St. Every seat in the place provides a good view, and at women's games, fans can sit really close to the court - allowing them to see & hear things (Coaches & players) that one may not be able to experience in a larger arena. Overall, I love it! Just wish there was more support, in terms of attendance, for the team's that play home games here.
