Read this before hiring TriNet. Absolutely worst experience ever with PEO. Their service is awful. Our rep was on leave the entire time we were signed up for services and the person covering her was also MIA... They don't honor their legal agreements about rate caps and try to push through a nearly 60% increase on first annual renewal. They told us their legal department didn't think the rate cap was properly written and told us to lawyer up. We will definitely do this since we feel they are acting in a way that should be publicly outed and shamed. They don't honor their agreements. A huge lack of integrity. Cancel TriNet!

TriNet is pretty expensive, that is true, but for the size of company we are (12 employees), and the fact that we are 100% remote, we're treating the expense as a full time HR/payroll employee, which means they're a little bit less expensive that actually hiring someone. However, if you don't know anything about HR starting out, you will experience quite a bit of frustration. If you already know something about HR practices, then you'll know the right questions to ask. And speaking of questions, if you go with TriNet, be prepared to have to ask the same question at least three times. The general support folks we have are lovely, but do not usually answer those questions - they send them on to the tax team or the HR team for clarification. Those teams never answer the question I ask. They always answer something I didn't ask and they make zero attempt at understand the help I need. Then I ask the same question a couple more times, and to be clear, I work very hard at being precise in my language, but it always takes at least three attempts at asking the same question to get the answer. This is incredibly frustrating and it wastes quite a bit of time. I am investigating alternatives to TriNet.

Do NOT do business with TriNet !!
You have been Forewarned, they employ unscrupulous business practices, charge egregiously high fees and will “Lock You Out” of your data. TrINet has been sticking its customers up by illegally charging its customers thousands (000’s) of dollars annually for a so called Platform fee. The amount in our case was < $4,500. that TriNet has “reverse wired” from our corp accounts without notification, reason or explanation. Wait, I’m sorry. They said they needed the money to make their sorry ass software bettter…. Wait again, aren’t they a publicly traded entity - and paying a healthy Dividend to share holders ? So stop screwing your customers over, and have your investors fuel your road map! They are the ones getting the return on investment. Not the small/medium business your choking! TRINET your FIRED!

Please don’t do any business with them! One of the worst customer services I have ever experienced. They forfeited my funds of my FSA account without properly communicating with me or the HR department of the company that I worked for, that the benefits end with the end of the month when an employee leaves the company. Such a scam! Hope you enjoy your coffee in the morning on me and all the other FSA funds that you have forfeited for the use “towards the cost of administering the account”.

Trinet is a scam. They have very non-transparent pricing. With all of their reports, it is next to impossible to understand what you are paying. It turns out they are ripping off their customers. My monthly service fee has more than doubled in 3 years from $500 per month to $1100 per month. My worker's compensation has increased to $1400 per month per employee when the maximum payout is $1099 per week--most companies have a maximum salary when calculating workers compensation. My medical premiums have increased from $48,000 per year per employee to $150,000 per year per employee which I believe is a direct violation of the affordable care act. Trinet has many reports and emails and alerts but you can't find these hidden prices any where. Avoid them at all costs because on top of these scam prices, their service is horrible.

I think a class action lawsuit should be brought against them for deceitful practices and blanket THEFT. They randomly announced $1,000 platform innovation fee for 2023 on December 1, 2023. This is not lawful and people who cancelled were still deducted this fee from the bank account. I would NOT go here. Try Justworks or anything else.

Worst Customer experience ever had. Just the past year I had to spend hundreds of hours to follow up on FSA reimbursements both for my employees and myself. Even simple task as life change status was a problematic experience with them. It took me a month and dozen of phone calls to resolve the issue. Would strongly advice to look for other providers before engaging with them.

I have a small company (5 people) and have been using Trinet for the past 4 years. I do not have one good thing I can say about them. But a whole list of negative experiences:

They told us when we enrolled that if we go with them, our medical benefits will stay inexpensive because we're going to be part of their "large group". They told us we wouldn't see an increase in price due to usage. This year they TRIPLED the cost of our health insurance because of our usage. When I asked them about it and really pushed the issue, they told me that they have an internal underwriting department who decides the rates. Is that even legal?

We have employees in 4 states. They screwed up our registration with 2 out of the 4 states. They overpaid unemployment taxes in the state of Washington and when I asked them to get the money back they told me that I need to call WA and ask for the money back. And we have zero control over what they do. There is no transparency and they just auto-draft money out of our account as they please.

And the absolute worst part is the complete lack of customer service. I could deal with them screwing stuff up IF someone was there to answer my call and fix it. But I tried calling and all calls go to a generic support person and not a single one that I talked to actually knew what they were doing. They all tell me they will "follow up" with the appropriate department and none of them do. And there is no way to actually speak to someone in those departments. When I was trying to figure out the Washington issue I mentioned earlier, I asked the generic support person to transfer me to the group who handles the state registrations and she told me she couldn't because THEY DON'T HAVE PHONES! I wish I was making this up! They also don't have an email address. All I have is a generic "connect360" email that I send stuff to and I never hear back. I have emails I sent 3 months ago that they never replied to.

So now we're trying to cancel our contract and switch to a different provider and I have no idea how to do that and nobody will answer me. Our "account manager" has not replied to a single one of my emails (he also doesn't have a phone), there is zero information on their website about how to cancel or what steps to take to make sure all the government entities are happy and we don't get slapped with fines. All I was told was that I needed to submit a 30 day notice. This isn't a gym membership! I need to know how the payroll will switch over, what states I need to contact, and all the other stuff they're supposed to help me with in exchange for the bucket of money I'm paying them every month.

Please please do yourself and your employees a favor and do not sign up with Trinet.
