The dog mushing museum is filled with a bunch of cool artifacts and memorabilia that can have you in there for a couple hours. There are a great couple videos that provide an awesome amount of informational content and there are a lot of great restaurants nearby to fill up on some food before you jump back in. The museum is free but its always great to donate some money to keep supporting the shop.

Absolute must visit if you’re interested in learning about Alaska/Fairbanks origins. They also include a special dog mushing museum to showcase original dog sled carts. The museum isn’t very large but it’s absolutely packed with artifacts and detailed information.

Although the museum’s setting is nothing fancy, I was impressed by the content. I liked the display about Togo the dog, the exhibit about the 1967 Fairbanks flood, the story of Irene, the “queen of Fairbanks,” and more—including the original newspaper cuttings of coverage on the 1964 Great Earthquake and the 1989 Valdez oil spill.

Awesome free museum that tells you all about the rich history of dog sledding, they have silent auctions where we’re I was able to win a Victorian photo album. The staff is super nice and helpful and truly care able the history they are keeping alive, I definitely recommend this stop if you’re in Fairbanks, can’t beat free, but leave a tip for these beautiful people if you can.

Small shops of handmade stuffs. Great place to shop for small handmade gifts for family and friends. Local people run these shops. They have few musium and free entry. If wants to gain some local knowledge, swing by this place.

This was my favorite museum in Fairbanks, and I enjoyed it so much more than I expected! It had a much more personal touch than the Thompson Visitors Center or the Museum of the North, which were a bit more clinical. The Fairbanks Community Museum struck me as an ethnographic museum, showing a glimpse into the lives of dog mushers, gold rush era participants, and Fairbanks flood survivors. It truly gave a sense of the community in this town.

We assumed an hour would be enough for a community museum, especially once we saw it was essentially just a very large room. (Full disclosure, we both like to read all the posted information. If you’re not much of a reader, it will not take as long.) After an hour and a half, we had only covered half of it and it was almost closing time! I went to confirm the closing time with the woman running the register and she generously offered to keep the museum open for a while longer. Knowing that it would take us much more time, we came back the next day and spent another hour at least. I highly encourage you to go to this free museum and donate as generously as possible so they can continue to operate!
