Obsession Records is aptly named.

I ventured to this store on a whim. My wife and I took in the experience of sorting through shelves of vinyl. There was a sense of discovery and magic finding an album versus looking for one.

My wife discovered a vintage Simon and Garfunkel album and we left with it. After pairing the new (old) album with a turn table we ventured back week after week to see what we discovered.

The location is well laid out and inviting, making discovery a welcoming experience. The staff is incredibly friendly, personable, and knowledgeable.

If you love music please consider a trip to Obsession Records. If you are a collector of vinyl, Obsession Records should be in your regular destinations.

"obsession" seems strong considering the CDs aren't really curated or organized very well. besides relatively alphabetically, (you'll find Gore grind next to soft r&b/rock + black metal next to yacht Rock, nu-metal next to its older, more androgenous sibling, cock-rock/jock jams) but I'm sure the staff & ownership more appreciate the licorice pizza to the 2-dimensional metallic doughnuts. I was disappointed at the lack of a healthy cassettes wing as well. but these drawbacks (and being really the only game in town so having that kind of advantage) only lost them one star. I do sincerely appreciate somebody trying to keep it alive. physical music is important. when some big corporation or the government can just erase all of your music in a heartbeat and you'd have no way of getting it back if they didn't want you to give the idea of having some form of backup in the physical world that you can hold in your hands and appreciate the artwork and the intention that went into the tactile presentation is a spiritual/metaphysical tangibility maaaa-aaaan...or womaaaa-aasn, you're right. my bad. and for being the only game in town they really held off on doing the Alaska thing and charging two to three times as much as they could just because it's possible to do so and still stay in business in Alaska. and why not screw over the people who live around you cuz who cares about other people right? we all should be facing the elements together and reminding each other why humanity is better than moose to hang out with. instead, we're all just slightly chilling his throats until dividend time comes around. everybody smiles for 2 weeks and then goes back to hating it all. no man. I was born here but I moved away from quite a while and every day. I wonder why you came back. people have somehow grown colder and more bitter with the population turnover that's mind-boggling people come up here expecting Paradise, wake up everyday in hell for 6 months and decide to run back south. but maybe like me they'll crap out a bunch of kids and think about how cool it would be to get a dividend every year for everybody and they'll come back. sunrise sunset the circle of poo all that.

I LOVE stopping by here. They have the kindest, most knowledgeable staff, great selection, and super cool setup. I could spend hours looking around. They also buy/sell used records! Definitely worth a visit!!

I will return every time I fly through town. One of the best new and used record selections I've run across. They even have a small selection of wonderful used stereo equipment.
